1.2 | FSC Objective

The international trade in illegal timber causes serious consequences for the environment:

Degradation

Loss of Biodiversity

Deforestation

The Forest Stewardship Council offers a voluntary, independent, third-party global certification system to promote good forest stewardship.

FSC-certified forests

  •  conserve areas of high biodiversity;
  •  minimise the impact of logging and harvesting operations;
  •  they counteract the conversion of natural forests into plantations;
  •  regularly monitor forest management practices in situ;
  •  respect the rights of local populations;
  •  They prohibit the use of genetically modified trees.
